1. Protect Your Personal Information
Keep identifying details private until you fully trust the person. Avoid sharing your:
- Home address or workplace
- Financial or banking details
- Private photos or identification documents
- Social security number or sensitive health information
2. Verify Who You’re Talking To
Scammers often use fake photos or copied profiles. Watch out for signs like:
- Refusal to video chat or meet in person
- Stories that seem “too perfect” or overly fast declarations of love
- Requests for money, gift cards, or personal favors
3. Keep First Meetings Public
When meeting for the first time, always choose a safe, public place:
- Cafés, parks, or restaurants with plenty of people around
- Tell a trusted friend or family member where you’re going and who you’re meeting
- Plan your own transportation—avoid being picked up or dropped off at home
4. Trust Your Instincts
If something feels off, it probably is. You never have to continue chatting, meeting, or responding. Block or report anyone who makes you uncomfortable.
- Don’t ignore red flags—rushing intimacy, guilt-tripping, or manipulation
- Your comfort and consent come first—always
5. Be Cautious With Photos and Links
Never send private or explicit images to people you haven’t met and verified. Be wary of links shared in chat—they could lead to phishing or malware sites.
6. Report Suspicious Behavior
Your safety helps keep the entire Tangles community secure. Report users who:
- Ask for money or financial help
- Threaten, harass, or impersonate others
- Share offensive or explicit content without consent
To report, tap the ⋮ menu on their profile or message, and select Report.
7. After a Date: Check In and Reflect
After meeting someone new, take a moment to reflect on how you felt. Did they respect your boundaries and make you feel safe? If something didn’t feel right, that’s worth trusting.
Always let a friend know you’ve returned home safely.
8. If You Feel Unsafe or Harassed
If you ever feel threatened, end communication immediately and contact local authorities if necessary. You can also email support@tangles-llc.com for help from our Safety Team.
