Tangles • How does matching work?

On Tangles, a match happens when both people like each other. No exceptions. You’ll never be matched without giving a like, and neither will anyone else.

TL;DR — You like them ➝ they like you ➝ it’s a match ➝ you can message each other.

The basic flow

Browse people who meet your preferences (distance, age, etc.).
Like the profiles you’re interested in.
Mutual like = instant match. You’ll both see a match card and can start chatting.

Paid subscriptions & categories

Subscribers can turn on Categories (your relationship goals/intent). When categories are on:

You’re shown to (and see) people who want the same thing you’re seeking (e.g., long-term, casual, friendship).
Your feed prioritizes mutual goal alignment, reducing mismatches.
You still need a mutual like for a match to happen.

Turning on categories doesn’t auto-match you; it just filters discovery so you mostly see compatible intents.

What affects who you see?

Preferences: distance, age range, gender, and other filters you set.
Category alignment (subscribers): only users whose goals match yours when enabled.
Recency & activity: more active, recently online profiles appear more.
Safety & verification: verified profiles may be shown higher.
Boosts / Super Likes (if available): temporarily increase visibility or signal strong intent.

What happens after a match?

You can message each other right away.
Matches appear in your Messages tab.
Either person can unmatch at any time (conversation is removed for both).

FAQs

Why am I not getting matches?

Your filters may be too strict (narrow distance/age). Try widening them slightly.
Add 2–4 great photos and a concise bio—profiles with clear info get more likes.
Verify your account and stay active; verified, active users are shown more.
If you’re a subscriber using categories, confirm your category is correct.

We both have the same category—why didn’t we match?

Categories only control discovery. You’ll match only if you both tap Like.

Can I message without matching?

By default, no. Some features or promotions may allow limited intro messages to certain users, but a mutual like remains the standard path to chat.

Tips to increase matches

Use recent, well-lit photos that show your face clearly.
Write a friendly, specific bio (what you’re into, what you’re looking for).
Verify your phone/photo/ID where available—trust signals matter.
Keep your intent/category accurate so you’re shown to compatible people.
Be active: log in, like thoughtfully, and respond to matches promptly.
